Most of the kids at Hess Street School have no idea who Brian Bulcke is — that much is pretty clear.
Populated mostly by immigrant kids from Ethiopia and South Asia, they are more interested in soccer than football — there isn’t a single Black and Gold jersey in the crowd and they butcher their first rendition of Oskee Wee Wee (before nailing it on the second.)
But if they don’t know who he is, they fully grasp the concept of what Bulcke is: A professional athlete who plays sports for a living. That gives him credibility to deliver a message they might not otherwise hear.
