2020 Nutrition Guidelines

A newly designed version of the 2020 Nutrition Guidelines is available. These guidelines were previously shared however this version contains additional resources to support your program. If you are looking for some new ideas, grocery shopping or have questions about serving sizes this is a great resource. It is available on our resource hub along with other documents.

Centralized Food Purchasing Updates

More “M” medium level prep items will become available on web tracker. If you are preparing food (chopping, cutting, cooking) one person onsite per program operation day must have their Safe Food Handling Certification.

All vendors now have a new order minimum of $150. Some exceptions will be made for smaller programs, however if you are able, please try to meet this new minimum for each vendor you order from.

Moving forward, all vendors on Web Tracker are unable to accept orders for milk only. If ordering milk, please ensure you are ordering at least 1 other product.

Tastebuds’ Funding

All funding for the 2021-2022 school year has been deposited into program accounts. We encourage you to review your budget and save 1-2 months of programs costs for startup in the 2022-2023 school year. We plan to deposit the first installment of funding for the new school year in October 2022.

This year (2021-2022) Tastebuds received additional funds from the Ministry of Children, Community and Social Services and Breakfast Club of Canada to support nutrition programs during COVID-19. We will likely not be receiving this extra support next year and strongly encourage programs to apply to grants, fundraise and consider how to budget efficiently next school year.

Your CDW is available to review your budget with you.

Other Funding Opportunity

President’s Choice Children's Charity (PCCC) - Power Full Kids Eat Well (up to $10,000 for your nutrition program)

The PCCC grant is changing this year. PC has updated the grant to a program that schools apply to participate in. There are new requirements for receiving funding including implementing once per week activities. We strongly encourage all schools who operate a 4- or 5-day nutrition program to check out the website for more details and apply when the applications open on May 1st.

Your CDW is available to assist with completing this application, however please note that we do not have access to your application so please be specific when reaching out for assistance. PCCC is a separate program to Tastebuds and if you have questions as to the logistics of the program (login and passwords, timelines) or their new program requirements, please reach out to PCCC directly.

Other grants available through PCCC

  • Power Full Kids Equipment Funds – Eat Well grant recipients eligible

  • Power Full Kids Grow and Cook – food-based education grant
